• Tuesday, July 1, 2026 (arrive in Madrid, Spain - depart US on June 30) 
• Wednesday, July 22, 2026 (depart Barcelona, Spain)

Program Itinerary

• Week 1 (July 1-7): Madrid
• Week 2 (July 8-12): Cartagena/Mediterranean Coast 
• Week 3 (July 13-19): Aínsa (Huesca) with a overnight in Zaragoza
• Final Days (July 20-22): Barcelona 

Program Description

Theme: Across Cultures & Landscapes 

In this unique study abroad program offered through ÀÏÌú¸£ÀûÍø you will get to spend three weeks in five different locations in Spain, immersing yourself in the vibrant culture and rich history of the Iberian Peninsula! Through coursework (delivered in English) in anthropology & global studies, ethnographic fieldwork projects, guided experiential/service learning activities, and multiple faculty-led field trips and excursions, you will get to dive deep into the fascinating intersection of the cultures and lanscapes (urban and rural) of Spain, and gain an informed appreciation of the centuries-long convergence of cultural identities in forming the country and identity of Spain today.

You will also get an opportunity to experience typical Spanish summertime activities in your free time, travel to new places including a day on a Mediterrean beach, meet new people, practice your Spanish, and create unforgettable memories.

Program Highlights

 

• Opportunity to travel to 5 different cities and towns of Spain: Madrid, Cartagena, Zaragoza, Aínsa and Barcelona!! And maybe one more (Teruel)! 
• 8 units of coursework offered by Foothill faculty lead in Anthropology (ANTH 2B Patterns of Culture) and Global Studies (GLST 2 Global Issues)
• Holistic and immersive academic program design with instruction consisting of lectures, workshops, ethnographic fieldwork activities, experiential & service learning, museum/cultural site visits, reflection and debrief sessions
• Accommodation in single or shared rooms/shared bath in well-equipped (wi-fi, air-conditioning, laundry facilities) international student residences and hostels
• 2-3 meals a day/7 days a week provided. All dietary needs can be accommodated.
• No Spanish required; All Spanish language levels welcome. 
• Our programs tend to attract participants of all ages, backgrounds, educational levels, majors, etc. – with a shared love of travel and exploration!

Courses Offered

• ANTH 2B Patterns of Culture (4 credits)
• GLST 2 Global Issues (4 credits)

If you have already taken and passed one or both of those two courses, you will enroll in Independent Study and/or a "stacked" course offering. More information available upon request.  

Application and Costs

As part of the application process, please complete the interest form to tell us a bit more about yourself. If you meet the initial program eligibility criteria, we'll provide the official program application.

Program Cost, Fees and Deadlines 

 

Early Bird Program Fee: $4,400 
Standard Program Fee: $4,700 

• Application deposit (applied towards program fee): $100
• Application deadline: Applications are accepted and students are admitted on a rolling basis. The application period will remain open until all spots are filled. Apply early to reserve your spot!! 
• Early Bird Deadline: Apply by January 31 and pay program fee of $4,400 in full by February 28, 2026
• Standard Program Fee of $4,700 Installment Plan:
  • 1st Installment of $1,000: by February 28, 2026
  • 2nd Installment of $1,000: by April 1, 2026
  • Final Installment of $2,600: by May 15, 2026
  • If applying after February 28, the application deposit and all prior installments due at the time of acceptance into the program. 
• Enrollment Fees & Tuition (8 units) due by July 1, 2026: Variable by units and residency status – see Student Fees & Tuition

 

Included in program fees

• Pre-departure and on arrival orientations, including a comprehensive participant information packet with culturally relevant information for appropriate and safe travel to/from and within Spain
• Faculty-led lectures and seminars, field trips, integrated experiential (out-of-the-classroom) learning opportunities in places of great cultural and historical interest
• Guest lectures/workshops with local experts
• Service learning/volunteer opportunities 
• Guided activities including city/town tours in every location,  museum visits, attendance at a Flamenco show, excursions to conservation sites, national parks and heritage landscapes
• Accommodation in single/shared rooms with 2-3 meals/day (in most locations rooms are shared; single room upgrade available at additional cost) 
• In-person support upon arrival at Madrid airport (within pre-arranged arrival window) 
• All in-country transportation as part of program itinerary including unlimited Madrid metro pass
• Medical and travel insurance, and 24/7 emergency support

Not included in program fees - additional costs 

• Airfare to Spain
• Supplemental single room upgrade fee of $650
• Foothill tuition and enrollment fees
• Personal spending money for independent activities/travel 
• Anything else not named above

Program Eligibility

Open to adults of all ages and experiences who:

• Have earned a high school diploma or the equivalent
• Are able to travel to Spain (hold/able to obtain a U.S. passport or a passport from a country with eligible entry to Spain)
• Are ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
